DTH or Cable TV?

Enjoy the ad of Dish TV by clicking on link given below. Don’t waste much time in watching this complete video, as I am going to explain you in this blog, how people wastes their valuable time dealing with DTH service which provides just for shear entertainment.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHpkPKhYUjY

"Thoda Aur wish Karo. Dish Karo" ("Wish a little bit more, install Dish TV") is the slogan of very popular and famous DTH Service provider Dish TV by Zee network. I have a Bad experience of Dish TV to share with all you guys.

I am regular user of Cable since last 15 years and Dish TV since last 1.5yrs. When DTH was launched in India, I was very much excited about it. I was eager to know how it is different than the normal cable. The difference is there, but it comes with the cost of money from your pocket and time of your life. Yes I mean it. There are lot of DTH services available in the market like Dish TV, Tata Sky, Airtel, Big TV and a lot more. All comes in the range of 1500 to 3000 INR. All provides almost equal number of channels except some more or less channels here and there. Let's take a look on the basic and common features of Dish TV as per my experience.

My punch line for this blog is:

"YOU NEED TO COMPROMISE WITH YOUR VALUABLE TIME TO GET THE QUALITY SERVICES FROM DTH AS AGAINST CABLE TV WHICH DISTURBS YOU ONLY ONCE(MONTHLY) WHEN THEY COME TO COLLECT MONTHLY CABLE PAYMENT"

Advantages of Dish TV
-----------------------
1. Digital Picture quality
This feature is really admirable as all the channels are very clear and having an excellent sharpness.
2. Dolby Audio
Don't even dare to compare it with Cable TV audio. Fantastic Superb.
3. Information Bar
This bar provides all the Current and future program details, but sometimes you will find that information is not updated over there. Still its very good feature.
4. Special features like channel recordings, special camera angles for cricket, movies on demand etc. but of course you need to 'pay' for all these services.

5. Highly advance payment options like recharge cards, online payment, drop boxes
Facility etc.
Risks are always there while making online transaction of say Rs. 350 or 500 Rs. As far as drop boxes are concerns, God only knows when the guys come to collect your cheque. It’s pathetic and very unsafe. You will remain in tension till you will get the updates from Dish TV that your payments are being received.

6. Dish TV never goes in down mode unless you do not have electricity at home and
Your set top box is working well.

No doubt these are very advance features which really changed the face of the cable TV. Lot of people opted for Dish TV and thus Cable TV business goes down. But if you compare DTH with cable TV, it comes with great relief of course at the cost of quality but the saving of money and your valuable time.

How do you waste your valuable time with DTH?

1. Recharging every month. (Monthly 10 minutes + mental stress of extra payment and online banking transaction + remembering the recharge dates every month)
Yes you have to log into respective website every month and recharge your subscription without fail. Otherwise, these people will call you and make your life tough. Moreover, these people will charge you more in case of late recharge.

2. Studying of different schemes of the DTH company.(30 minutes + end up with dilemma about various packages)
You will have to pay hell lot of time while selecting a suitable scheme from lot many schemes available on this DTH website. Its very time consumable and when you select particular scheme, while watching it on your favorite TV set, you will find you have missed some of your favorite channels.

3. Paying penalty if you recharge late.
This is pathetic. Why this penalty is required?

4. Every month you need to log in into the website and pay the money. Or you need to go to dealer and pay some extra money and then submit the payment (assuming I am recharging monthly and not annually for which I am getting only 5% to 10% concession of total annual amount).

5. For any issue you need to call to customer care which is very hopeless as compare to local support provided by cable guys. At least you need not have to pay huge phone bills due to calling to customer care services.

6. In case, you’re set top box is faulty then everything will be on toss for you. You will have to pay Rs. 150 to call the service man to check the set top box and pay the repairing cost for the same from your pocket.

7. NO local channels. Suppose you want to check what’s happening in your city like Pune. Like Live “Ganesh Visarjan Miravnuk”. No option in DTH. You will have to satisfy it by seeing in news. But Cable provides this very special customized channel and broadcast anything happening in your city. I think this is the best point in Cable.

8. You can request to your cable guy and ask for any specific movie as per your request. Cable operator will take time for this to execute. But once he will find that lot many people are demanding for this movie, he will definitely play it. Or else if you have good friendship with cable guy, he will play your favorite movie without many requests. Believe me it happens in India.

9. Cable charges are fixed.

As against of this, Cable guy comes once at your home, connects cable wire to your TV and only sends his payment collectors to collect the monthly bills.

Following are the benefits of the Cables as per my opinion
No online transactions,
No customer care phones,
No late charge,
No maintenance cost,
No set top box issue,
No mental tension to remember the charging dates.
No need to delete sms from your Inbox due to unnecessary sms from DTH providers.
No need to study hopeless schemes by the DTH providers.
Huge time saving due to avoidance of above issues.

So what do you think? Do you want to enjoy the superb picture quality and Dolby sound at the cost of your precious time plus mental stress plus risks of small amount online payments? I would like to hear you.

So let’s change the slogan of Dish TV

“Aur mat Dish karo….Cable Karo” (Don’t go for Dish Tv, Go for Cable Tv)

Dapoli - A Relaxing Destination on Weekends

"Life is a journey". We moved ahead with life's journey to Dapoli Beach in Konkan on 13 Feb 09 night at 8pm. My Friend Sumukh and Prajakta have initiated to travel to Dapoli beach. He dropped me a mail on Friday 13 Feb 09 and I immediately made up my mind to travel to Dapoli to relax on weekends.

I left office early. I reached at home and met Sumukh. He booked the hotel Silver Sand on phone (02358 - 34501,Contact Person : Ms.Mamta ) and informed them about our arrival over there. We all four set off for Dapoli at 8.00pm on 13th Feb 09 by Sumukh's Indigo Car. We left from Dhayari,Pune and we decided not to go via
"Tamhini Ghat" at night time to avoid any risks in the journey. Sumukh suggested to take the root via "Chiplun". Pune to Chiplun is 117 Kilometers. Chiplun to Dapoli is 60 Kilometers. We all were in tension because we were about to reach in the Silver Sand Beach Resort on almost 2.00am in the morning. We didn't have much idea about the roads. We fueled the Car. Fortunately weather was good. Sumukh started driving excellently. We had several discussions during the journey about how we plan the travel and how we are reaching towards the memorable destination and what not. Our dearest friend Mr.Yogesh and his wife Archana could not come with us because his baby's was not well. We were sad becuase of this. In spite of this, our ongoing journey was superb. We stopped at Rupa Garden to have dinner at about 10.00pm for 30mins. We all had a light dinner and we resumed our journey.

There was a "Khambatki Ghat" on the way which is 6 to 7km long, having very sharp turns. Sumukh was showing his driving skills on these unknown roads at this night time. Indigo was giving the best performance, flashing intense head lights in the dark streets and we three were enjoying the new and latest songs with cool mindset inside the car.

On 1.00am,14 Feb 09, we reached at Chiplun. Kanchan could not resist from sleep. We enquired about the correct street to Dapoli in one of the police chowki at Chiplun. We were trying to keep Sumukh awaked. Prajakta,Kanchan and myself were discussing on various issues so that Sumukh will take part in it and Not feel sleepy. At one moment, we found that a Metador (a Vehicle) in front of us, appears suddenly in the dust and on the spur of the moment it disappears. We all were confused. Sumukh was also thinking what has happenend to the Metador. But we found it and then we felt relaxed. It was a very fast driving vehicle.

Due to cold, front glass of the car was getting covered with dews. Sumukh Was washing it using wipers in every 15 minutes. Finally he stopped car, get down and washed the complete front glass with dry cloth. We were scaring, why he suddenly stopped car and get down. It was a night time almost 1.30am and fortunately everything went well. He again reignited car and now we were very near to Dapoli.

Finally at about 2.30am we reached at "Silver Sand Beach Resort". The small roads in the darkness were scaring us. Intelligent Sumukh has found out the Resort in the dark and we finally reached on the destination.

To our surprise, we could hear the strong roaring sound of waves from the sea. In the dark, we could not able to see the sea but we could hear the sound of waves. We instantly forgot our tiredness due to journey and feeling excited. We wanted to see the sea but it was completely dark with no lights. We all four get down from the car and entered into the resort. Silence was everywhere and we were killing it by discussing about the resort and questioning about the same. We could not see exactly where were the cottages and reception, so Sumukh called at the reception using his mobile. Two gentalmen came out of reception. They asked very poliently who we are. After showing the recognition, they smiled and showed us our cottage. We all were moving towards our cottage and we suddenly found that we are moving towards the sea because the sea was making much noise which was exciting us. To our surprise, our cottage was exactly in front of the sea. It is hardly 100mtrs from the sea. We all were very happy. He served initial service to us and went away. We were very delighted to see the sea in front of our cottage. Our cottage No. was T - 1. Yes. It was the first cottage.

We entered inside the cottage (1800 Rs. per day) and found there were 3 beds, nicely arranged, One TV, attached fresh room, One cupboard with mirror. Cottage was like a hut. Wall of this cottage was nicely coloured. ceiling was nice and equipped with ceiling fans. We changed and tried to sleep, but nobody was able to sleep because of roaring sound of waves from sea. Somehow we all went into sleep. Some small dinosours were moving on the walls of cottages. It was a 'good' cottage.

At 6.30am (14 Feb 09) we awaked and moved to Sea beach. It was a dawn and sun had not risen. Cool air was blowing beautifully, making noise on the sea shore and we could see two boats were coming towards the shore,i.e. towards us. We were moving here and there on the shore and enjoying on Dapoli Beach. Water was everywhere. Waves were coming very forcefully towards the sea shore and moving back.Local boat owners were asking us to have a ride on boat to see the Dolphins (100 Rs per head). We decided to go for it. We had a 35 mins ride on boat and saw marvellous Dolphins jumping in the sea. We snapped some pics. That was very nice experience.

First photo we snapped when we reached at beach. We were waiting for the Sun to be raised.

Our next snap, immediately after 2 mins of first snap shown above.

Hold your breath, Sun is rising ahead....

Look at this view, How beautiful it is ! Sun was desperate to climb the hill.

One poor fish came on the shore with wave, when we were on beach. Sea pulled her back in him. She is enjoying her life now...

An insect inside the shell. Cute looking....

I could not resist and hold one shell and observed it very closely. It was nice experience.

We are on boat now to see the Dolphins. You can see the back of one of the black Dolphin. We cheered....great moment.

This is not a evening pic. Its day time pic at 8.30am in the morning.

Don't ask me the proof again.....

Walking back to Resort after Boat ride.

Key of our Resort Cottage. It gives a "On the Beach" feel all the time.

After spending time for 2 hours, we had bread omlette, other snacks and tea at resort's dining section at about 8.30am. There was a good arrangment of benches near the sea shore. Long coconut Trees were everywhere. We had a good discussion on general topics, future plans. Service at this resort was really impressive. Young waiters were literally running to fullfill the requirement of the guests. They were smiling on each requests and doing there job perfectly. We again went to sea shore and snapped some pics on the sand.

Afer one hour we left from the resort to see the forts nearby. We drove our car throught the Koli Colony and observed typical sea shore people, doing their ritual traditions like marriages, wearing full of gold ornaments. We had a huge discussion on the same. Every woman in this society was wearing heavy gold ornaments. There was nothing much to see but we do spent some time on one of the another sea shore and enjoyed the beauty of nature over there.

We came back at resort after one hour and againg went to beach. We played there in water for almost 2 hours. We constructed Killas in the sand like small kids, we played football, Batminton on the beach. We ordered for veg and non-veg. At evening we had a full of Dinner which includes Fish,Egg etc. We had a soft drinks before lunch. We were very tired at the end of the day and wanted to sleep as early as possible. We changed our room to F-6 from T-1. Famous "Eka Peksha Ek" star Ajinkya Shinde was also on the same beach with his group for saturday(13 Feb 09) and sunday(14 Feb 09).

Our Cottage, were we had halted for 2 days (on first floor). Old but good one.

Cottages in a row. Nice one.

Dining place of the Resort. Cool Place to enjoy sea foods here.

This is the Entrance of Resort Silver Sand. A non-international standard reception counter where a man is standing.

We slept early on 14th. Next day on sunday (15 Feb), we woke up at 8.30am, had a round on the beach, had a breakfast and packed our luggage. Paid hotel bills and started our journey back to Pune from Dapoli. We started at 11.15 am. We had some darshan program at "Sri Parshuram Temple" at Chiplun and "Mata Vindhya vasini temple". We had a lunch at chiplun at 2.00pm and we left again for Pune. Reached pune at 9.15pm at night on sunday.

Thus we had a very refreshing journey on the weekends with per head cost not more than 2000 Rs.

Sonu Nigam - A Legend of Indian Cinema

Sonu Nigam.

No need to ask about this personality. He is celebrity in India. for more than 15 years he has been singing for Indian cinema. He is my personal favorite singer.

Today in this blog, I am going to explain you my memories about sonu nigam. No no, that Does not mean that I have met this person, but I have lot many memories when he had entered into bollywood cinema and I was quite young.

I remember, I was in 7th standard. One film had launched at that time named Aaja Meri Jaan.Publicity of film was superb. I used to hear many good songs from that film on my radio. Songs like aaja meri jaan (title song), maria sun le mera haal, novel padha, julie julie etc. I liked those all songs and I decided to purchase a audio cassette. At that time, CD's were not there and my dad had purchased a videocon sterio to play cassettes. I purchased Aaja Meri Jaan Cassetted and I was
enjoying it for the first time. On B-side of that cassette, there was a very nervous and apathy mood song. "O aasaman wale jamin par utar ke dekh" this was that song. While listening to this song, I found that a singer is new and he sung this song from the heart, something happened to my mind and I immediately rushed to cassette cover. I uncovered it and took out printed paper where song list and all details like singer , music director details is generally mentioned. I immediately searched for that song from the list and found out singer "SONU NIGAM". I imagined that
personality in my brain and after that whenever I used to listened to that song, I used to think that how much efforts he had been placed to sing this song.

I still remember the stanza of this song. There was so powerful singing

Tu bhi to dekh duniya me, dardo ka silsila
Gam ki tadap se rab mere, tu bhi to tilmila
ooo pathar ko puj puj kar
ooo pathar ko puj puj kar humne khuda kiya
par tune mere yaar ko, muzse juda kiya

o aasamana wale zamin par utar ke dekh..
hoti hai kya judai, tu bhi utar ke dekhi.

o aasamana wale...

That was very wonderfully sung by sonu. Well done sonu. Since then I started looking for this person in the movie cassettes. Then after some days his song "Achha sila diya tune mera pyar ka" comes. This song also rocked in the market. This song was from the famous album of Mr. Atta Ulla Khan. Sonu had given excellent rendering expressions of Judai and Bewafaii in this song. It feels that he literally crying while singing this song. Truly amazing Sonu. I was so much impressed with this song and I sung it in our Society Ganesh Festival at Nagpur.

Then slowly slowly Sonu started making marks in the film industry. In year 2000, he released album "Deewana". When I had invited my final year engineering batch mates at home. They had gifted me "Deewana". I listened to it and I once again become fan of sonu. His romantic mood has no Comparisons in this world. All the songs in this albums are so good that I still sing all these songs and I remember all the wordings of the songs.

Then Ye dil.. from Pardesh,Is pyar ko ...Muze kuchh kahna hai,Yaad album - mohabbat kabhi to ..Abhi sas lene ki fursat nahi hai...,Hume jab se mohabbat ho gayi hai, sandese aate hai (My Mom's all time favourite song) etc and some of the wonderful songs.

Today also I like to see sonu on TV on reality shows. I enjoyed his Indian Idol. But I think now he has settled in USA and occasionally comes india for the tv shows or movie premiers. Today also I like to read about him, I like to watch his inteviews, his openions about music, life. I like so see the recordings of his song.

Only one WISH I have is to meet him. When will my wish will come true?

GOLDEN WORDS OF SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

GOLDEN WORDS OF SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

Arise! Awake! And stop not till the goal is reached

I shall inspire men everywhere until the world shall know that it is one with God.

Man never progresses from error to truth, but from truth to truth, from lesser truth to higher truth.

Spiritual knowledge is the only thing that can destroy our miseries forever.

He who has no faith in himself can never have faith in God.

What, Seekest thou the pleasures of the world! He is the fountain of all Bliss.

Sympathy for the poor, the downtrodden, even unto death—this is our motto.

Great convictions are the mothers of great deeds.

What India wants is a new electric fire to stir up a fresh vigour in the national veins.

The greatest truths are the simplest things in the world, simple as your own existence.

It is fear that is the great cause of our woes.

What I want is muscles of iron and nerves of steel, inside which dwells a mind of the same material as that of which the thunderbolt is made.

Love is the gate of all the secrets of the universe.

Unselfishness is more paying, only people have not the patience to practise.

Look not back, no, not even if you see the dearest and nearest cry.

Look not back, but forward.

Let us all work hard, my brethren, this is no time for sleep.

On our work depends the coming of the India of the future.

I do not care of liberation, I would rather go to a hundred thousand hells, “doing good to others (silently) like the spring” – this my religion.
Shall India die? Then from the world all spirituality will be extinct; all moral perfection will be extinct…such a thing can never be.

Faith, faith, faith in ourselves, faith, faith in God—this is the secret of greatness.

Doing good to others is virtue, injuring others is sin.

Strength and manliness are virtues; weakness and cowardice are sins.

Independence is virtue; hating others is sin.

Faith in God and in one’s own self is virtue; doubt is sin.

Knowledge of oneness is virtue; seeking diversity is sin.

Give me few men and women who are pure and selfless, and I shall shake the world.

He who loves lives, he who is selfish is dying. Therefore, love for love’s sake.

Any expansion is life, all contraction is death.

He works best who works without any motive.

I consider that the great national sin is the neglect of the masses and that is one of the causes of our downfall.

If you think yourselves weak, weak you will be; if you think yourselves strong, strong you will be.

They alone live who live for others, the rest are more dead than alive.

Truth is purity, Truth is all knowledge. Truth must be strengthening, must be enlightening, must be invigorating.

Save yourself by yourself! There is none to help you—never was, to think that there is, is a sweet delusion.

Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your shoulders.

All the strength and succour you want is within yourselves. Therefore make your own future.

Service to humanity is the highest form of worship.

The goal of mankind is knowledge.

It is better, far better to die on the field of duty, preaching the Truth, than to die like a worldly worm.

If there is sin, this is the only sin, to say that you are weak, or others are weak.

Work as if on each of you depended the whole work.

Duty is sweet only through love.

The Indian nation can not be killed, so long as her people do not give up their spirituality.

Space is in the soul and not the soul in space.

Do not look back upon what has been done. Go ahead!

Men, men, these are wanted; everything else will be ready.

Go from village to village, do good to humanity and to the world at large.

Go to hell yourself to buy salvation for others.

Death being so certain it is better to die for a good cause.

Cowards only sin, brave men never, no, not even in mind.

The universe is objectified God.

Man should be taught to be practical and physically strong.

A dozen of such lions will conquer the world, and not millions of sheep can do so.

To be good and do good – that is the whole of religion.

It is a privilege to serve mankind, for this is the worship of God.

Pay as much attention to the means as to the end.

Every duty is holy and devotion to duty is the highest form of the worship of God.

The remedy for weakness is not brooding over weakness, but thinking of strength.

You can not believe in God until you believe in yourself.

The difference between God and devil is in nothing except in unselfishness and selfishness.

He who sees Shiva in the poor, in the weak, and in the diseased, really worships Shiva.

The national ideals of India are RENUNCIATION AND SERVICE.

Intensify her in these channels, and the rest will take care of itself.

Each soul is potentially divine.

So long as millions live in hunger and ignorance, I hold every man a traitor, who, having been educated at their expense, pays not the least heed to them.
Religion is realization; not talk, no doctrine, nor theories, however beautiful they may be. It is being and becoming.

Perfection comes through the disinterested performance of action.

That love which is perfectly unselfish, is the only love, and that is of God.

Let New India a rise—out of the peasants’ cottage, grasping the plough; out of the huts of the fisherman, the cobbler, and the sweeper.

Death is better than a vegetating ignorant life; it is better to die on the battlefield than to live a life of defeat.

This world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong.

Real education is that which enables one to stand on his own legs.

Utter no words of condemnation. Close your lips, and let your hearts open.

He who adjusts himself best lives the longest.

That which is selfish is immoral, and that which is unselfish is moral.

It is better to wear out than to rust out—specially for the sake of doing good to others.

He is an atheist who does not believe in himself.

Knowledge is nothing but finding unity in the midst of diversity.

Purity, patience and perseverance are the three essentials of success and above all—Love.

Religion is the idea which is raising the brute unto man, and man unto God.

What the nation wants is pluck and scientific genius. We want great spirit, tremendous energy, and boundless enthusiasm.

The only service to be done for our lower classes is to give them education, to develop their lost individuality.

Even thinking of the least good of others gradually instills into the heart, the strength of a lion.

Him I call a Mahatman whose heart bleeds for the poor; otherwise he is a Duratman.

India will be raised, not with the power of the flesh, but with the power of the spirit.

What we want is vigour in the blood, strength in the nerves, iron muscles and nerves of steel, not softening namby-pamby words.

I bequeath to you, young men, this sympathy, this struggle for the poor, the ignorant, the oppressed.

Anything that makes you weak physically, intellectually and spiritually, reject as poison.

Off at once, to lay down your life for your own liberation and for the good of others.

India wants the sacrifice of at least a thousand of her young men—men and not brutes.

Truth alone gives strength…. strength is the medicine for the world’s disease.

To work without motive, to work unattached, brings the highest bliss and freedom.

The older I grow, the more everything seems to me to lie in manliness.

Give up jealousy and conceit. Learn to work unitedly for others.

The only God to worship is the human soul in the human body.

It is struggle against nature and not confinity to nature that makes man what he is.

Whatever you think, that you become. If you have to think, think good thoughts, great thoughts.

Even as an intellectual study, the study of Vedanta is the healthiest.

When a man has begun to be ashamed of his ancestors, the end has come.

The world is in need of those whose life is one of burning love, selfless.

Men are more valuable than all the wealth of the world.

The concentrated mind is a lamp that shows us every corner of the soul.

Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man.

Religion is the manifestation of the Divinity already in man.

What is the watch-word of all ethical codes? ‘Not I, but thou’.

That action is moral which frees us from the bondage of matter.

The happiest moments we ever know are when we entirely forget ourselves.

Cleanse the mind, this is all of religion.
Read man, he is the living poem.

If your freedom hurts others, you are not free there.

He who struggles is better than he who never attempts.

Character has to be established through a thousand stumbles.

The history of civilization is the progressive reading of spirit into matter.

All knowledge depends upon calmness of mind.

The eternal law is self-sacrifice, not self-assertion.

Inspiration is much higher than reason but it must not contradict it.

Give as the rose gives perfume, because it is its own nature, utterly unconscious of giving.

Books are useless to us until our own book opens.

The world is a gymnasium in which we play; our life is an eternal holiday.

Choose the highest ideal and live your life upto that. Look at the ‘ocean’ and not at the ‘wave’.

All condemnation of others really condemns ourselves.

Experience is the only teacher.

This is the only world where man can work out his salvation.

The greatest sin is to think yourself weak.

Instinct is like ice, reason is the water, and inspiration is the subtlest form of vapour.

Do not spend your energy in talking, but meditate in silence.

The whole ocean is present at the back of each wave.

Melancholy is an almost insurmountable barrier.

Seek the science of the maker, and not that of the made.

Guess against the guess makes fight.

Do not be mere white mice in a treadmill, working always and never accomplishing anything.

Only those who want nothing are the masters of nature.

Put God behind everything—man, animal, food, work; make this a habit.

No man should be judged by his defects.

A perfect man’s body mechanically does right.

Bear every misery without even knowing that you are miserable.

The tyrannical idea of duty is a terrible poison and is destroying the world.

Come to God any way you can; only come. But in coming do not push any one down.

The sum total of all ideas of help is God.

He alone, who is always awake to the idea of freedom, becomes free.

In eating, dressing or lying, in singing or playing, in enjoyment or disease, always manifest the highest moral courage.

Truth does not pay homage to society, society has to pay homage to Truth or die.

Art, Science, and Religion are but three different ways of expressing a single truth.

There is nothing holier in the world than to keep good company.

Every being is the temple of the Most High.

Be brave and be sincere; then follow the path with devotion and you must reach the Lord.

Religion begins where philosophy ends.

Every great achievement is done slowly.

Art is—representing the beautiful. There must be Art in everything.

Our misery comes, not from work, but by our getting attached to something.

One atom has the power of the whole universe at its back.

Blows are what awaken us and help to break the dream.

The thirst after body is the great bane of human life.

A golden chain is as much a chain as an iron one.

Desire, ignorance and inequality—this is the trinity of bondage.

The cause of today is the effect of the past and the cause for the future.

Character is repeated habits, and repeated habits alone can reform character.

It is character that cleaves its way through adamantine walls of difficulties.

My method of work is to construct and not pull down.

Chastity is the corner-stone of all morality and of all religion.

No civilization can grow unless fanaticism, bloodshed, and brutality stop.

True civilization should mean the power of taking the animal-man out of his sense-life.

There is no greater sin than cowardice; cowards are never saved—that is sure.

It is spiritual culture and ethical culture alone that can change wrong racial tendencies for the better.

It is the duty of every aristocracy to dig its own grave; and the sooner it does so, the better for all.

Unto him comes everything who does not care for anything.

Dirt cannot wash dirt, hate cannot cure hate.

Before reaching the highest ideal, man’s duty is to resist evil; let him work, let him fight, let him strike straight from the shoulder.

Our duty is to encourage every one in his struggle to live up to his own highest ideal, and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the truth.

Education is not the amount of information that is put into your brain and runs riot there, undigested, all your life.

It is man-making education all round that we want.

We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.

That action is moral which frees us from the bondage of matter.

If the poor cannot come to education, education must reach them, at the plough, in the factory, everywhere.

One particle of matter has all the energy of the universe at its back.

Enjoyment lies not in physical development, but in the culture of the mind and the intellect.

No privileges for anyone, equal chances for all; let everyone work out his own salvation.

Chastity is the first virtue in man or woman.

This is the way to perfection, to strive to be perfect, and to strive to make perfect a few men and women.

We need to have three things; the heart to feel, the brain to conceive, the hand to work.

What we want now is an immense awakening of Rajasika energy, for the whole country is wrapped in the shroud of Tamas.

Infinite patience, infinite purity and infinite perseverance are the secret of success in a good cause.

It is preferable to live on grass for the sake of doing good to others.

The power of love is infinitely of greater potency than the power of hatred.

It is hatred that separates man from man, therefore it is wrong and false.

If we cannot help ourselves, there is none to help us.

In helping the world we really help ourselves.

Defeat is the ornament the hero adorns himself with.

If a Hindu is not spiritual, I do not call him a Hindu.

The Hindu must not give up his religion, but must keep religion within its proper limits and give freedom to society to grow.

The Hindu religion does not consist in struggles and attempts to believe a certain doctrine or dogma, but in realizing—not in believing, but in being and becoming.

Hindus are head and shoulders above all other nations in morality and spirituality.

No religion on earth preaches the dignity of humanity in such a lofty strain as Hinduism.

East or West, home is best.

Humanity travels not from error to truth, but from truth to truth.

The real evil is idleness, which is the principal cause of our poverty.

There is only one country in the world which understands religion. It is India.

Religion is the backbone, the bed-rock, the foundation upon which the national edifice has been built.

Religion and religion alone is the life of India, and when that goes India will die.

Here in India, religion is the one and the only occupation of life.

Religion, in India, means realization and nothing short of that.

National union in India must be a gathering up of all scattered spiritual force.

The gift of India is the gift of religion and philosophy, and wisdom and spirituality.

Renunciation and spirituality are the two great ideas of India.

India’s contribution to the sum total of human knowledge has been spirituality and philosophy.

Whether you believe in spirituality or not, for the sake of the national life, you have to get hold on spirituality and keep to it.

A nation in India must be a union of those whose hearts beat to the same spiritual tune.

No amount of politics would be of any avail until the masses in India are once more well-educated, well-fed and well-cared for.

India must conquer the world, and nothing less than that is my ideal.

The ideal woman in India is the mother, the mother first, and the mother last.

The world has yet to learn from India the idea not only of toleration, but of sympathy.

He who can become mad with an idea, he alone sees light.

The leaders of our societies have never been either generals or kings but Rishis.

Life is too short to be spent in talking about frauds and cranks.

When you give life, you will have life.
Multitude counts for nothing.

A few hearts—whole, sincere, and energetic men can do more in a year, than a mob in a century.

All misery of the world is caused by the slavery to the senses.

Everything that strengthens the will by revealing the real nature is moral.

We can’t be twisted and tortured into the shape of other nations.

A nation is advanced in proportion to education and intelligence spread among the masses.

The test of progress is the amount of renunciation that one has attained.

Purity in thought, speech and act is absolutely necessary for any one to be religious.

Work—this is the time; for the freshest, the untouched, and unsmelled flowers alone are to be laid at the feet of the Lord.

It is reason that develops into inspiration and therefore inspiration does not contradict reason but fulfils it.

Meddle not with so-called social reform, for, there cannot be any reform without spiritual reform first.

The goal of all religions is the same but the language of the teachers differs.

The man who is frightened into religion has no religion at all.

The greatest religion is to be true to your own nature.

Religion is realization; not talk, nor doctrine, nor theories, however beautiful they may be.

All that man has to do is to take care of three things; good thought, good word, good deed.

Sanskrit and prestige go together in India.

The Lord has hidden Himself best and His work is best; he who hides himself best, accomplishes most.

Self-sacrifice, indeed, is the basis of all civilization.

Blessed are they whose bodies get destroyed in the service of others.

What makes one man great and another weak and low is Sraddha.
